Curious how to pair your Apple iPhone to your new Honda using Apple CarPlay? Below you will find a simple step-by-step guide plus an informative video on the process.

Apple CarPlay® puts your iPhone's maps, calls, messages and music on your Honda's touchscreen so you can use them with fewer distractions. If your Honda has Honda Display Audio with CarPlay, setup is quick. In most cases you plug in your phone or pair it once, and CarPlay takes it from there.

How to Set Up Apple CarPlay in Your Honda

Before you start

  1. Park your Honda in a safe place and set the vehicle power to ON or ACCESSORY.
  2.
  3. Make sure Siri is turned on in your iPhone's Settings.
  4.
  5. Have the right cable ready. Use a cable that fits both your iPhone (USB-C on iPhone 15 and newer, Lightning on older models) and your Honda's USB port. A direct cable works better than an adapter. Charge-only cables often won't work, so use an Apple cable or a certified data cable.

Any iPhone 5 or newer works with CarPlay.

Choose your connection type

Not sure which one your Honda has? Check the list of compatible models below or look in your owner's manual. Wireless CarPlay is available on many newer models and trims.

Option A: Wired CarPlay (USB cable)

  1. Plug your iPhone into the USB port marked with the three-pronged USB icon, using an Apple cable or a certified data cable.
  2.
  3. When your Honda's touchscreen asks about using CarPlay, touch Yes.
  4.
  5. Press Connect on the infotainment display to launch Apple CarPlay.
  6.
  7. If CarPlay doesn't open, select the Apple CarPlay icon on the touchscreen.

Option B: Your Honda supports both wired and wireless

  1. Connect with a USB cable the first time, following Option A.
  2.
  3. When your iPhone offers to connect wirelessly on your next drives, accept.
  4.
  5. On later drives, CarPlay connects without the cable.

Option C: Wireless CarPlay (no cable)

  1. Make sure Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are turned on in your iPhone's Settings.
  2.
  3. Connect your iPhone to your Honda over Bluetooth.
  4.
  5. On your Honda's touchscreen, press Home > General Settings > Connections > Manage Device Connections.
  6.
  7. Press the Apple CarPlay icon in the Function column next to your iPhone to turn on Apple CarPlay.
  8.
  9. If your iPhone asks you to accept the connection, select Use CarPlay.
  10.
  11. Press the Apple CarPlay icon on the touchscreen to open CarPlay.

Menu names can differ by model year, so your owner's manual has the exact steps for your Honda. You can also go to Settings > General > CarPlay on your iPhone and tap your Honda under Available Cars.

Using Apple CarPlay in Your Honda

Once you're connected, press and hold the voice command button on your steering wheel and talk to Siri. Try "Show me the best places to get pizza near me," then pick a spot and Siri takes you there.

From the touchscreen or by voice, you can:

  • Make phone calls and send texts hands-free
  •
  • Listen to podcasts, audiobooks and Apple Music
  •
  • Get directions with Apple Maps

Third-party apps work with CarPlay as long as they support it. CarPlay needs an iPhone with an active cellular connection and data plan.

To go back to your Honda's home screen, select the Honda icon on the CarPlay menu. While your iPhone is connected to CarPlay, Honda's Bluetooth Audio and HandsFreeLink aren't available.

Apple CarPlay Not Connecting? Try These Fixes

If CarPlay won't connect or stops working, go through these one at a time and test after each. They follow guidance from Apple and Honda.

  • Restart your iPhone and turn your Honda off and on again.
  •
  • Try a different cable and a different USB port. A worn or charge-only cable is a common cause of wired problems.
  •
  • Check that CarPlay isn't restricted: Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Allowed Apps.
  •
  • If you turned CarPlay off on your Honda's screen before, your owner's manual shows how to turn it back on.
  •
  • Update your iPhone in Settings > General > Software Update.
  •
  • Check that your Honda's Display Audio software is up to date. Your owner's manual or our service team can help.
  •
  • Connecting wirelessly? Make sure Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are on, then tap the CarPlay network in Settings > Wi-Fi and make sure Auto-Join is on.
  •
  • Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, tap your Honda, tap Forget This Car, and set up CarPlay again.
  •

Apple CarPlay FAQs

How do I set up Apple CarPlay in my Honda?

Start your Honda, make sure Siri is on, then plug your iPhone into the USB port and accept any prompts. On models with wireless CarPlay, you can also pair your iPhone over Bluetooth and turn on Apple CarPlay under Manage Device Connections on the Honda screen. CarPlay opens on the touchscreen once you're connected.

What year did Honda get Apple CarPlay?

Honda added Apple CarPlay with the 2016 Accord and Civic. The CR-V, Pilot and Ridgeline followed in 2017, the Odyssey and Fit in 2018, and the HR-V, Passport, Insight and Clarity in 2019. The Prologue joined in 2024 and the Prelude in 2026.

Does my Honda have Apple CarPlay?

Most Hondas from 2016 on do. Check the model list on this page, since features vary by model year and trim.

Can I use Apple CarPlay wirelessly in my Honda?

Yes, on many newer Honda models and trims. Pair your iPhone over Bluetooth, then turn on Apple CarPlay under Manage Device Connections on the Honda screen. Older models connect with a USB cable.

Why won't my iPhone connect to Apple CarPlay in my Honda?

Start with the basics. Try a different cable and USB port, restart your iPhone and your Honda, and update iOS. For wireless, make sure Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Auto-Join are on. If it still won't connect, go to Settings > General > CarPlay on your iPhone, tap your Honda, choose Forget This Car and set it up again.

Why does my iPhone say CarPlay is disabled?

CarPlay can be blocked by your iPhone's restrictions. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions, and if it's on, open Allowed Apps and make sure CarPlay is enabled. If you turned CarPlay off on your Honda's screen earlier, your owner's manual shows how to turn it back on.

Can I use Bluetooth audio while Apple CarPlay is connected?

Not on the same phone. While your iPhone is connected to CarPlay, Honda's Bluetooth Audio and HandsFreeLink aren't available. Other phones you've paired before can still use Bluetooth Audio.

Does Apple CarPlay use my data?

Yes. CarPlay needs an iPhone with an active cellular connection and data plan, so carrier rates may apply. You also need coverage for data-based features like maps and streaming.
